Very interesting, VERY good points, Barbara ! You point out that I mix up "genius" and "god", which I do in fact. I think of Eric as a
"small god" and I deduce he's not a genius, that's just not fair !
However, to fail algebra and to compromise oneself in several third rate productions is not the same thing. Eric did not fail, he
acted as a failure. He did, indeed, consciously create things dull and ugly (not ALL of them, though !) for obscure reasons.
And that makes Eric a small god, and still not a genius, for he could have found other ways of feeding his family than "Casper" or
"Suddenly Susan". The latter I find impossible to forgive, you know. It's no wrong algebra. It's horrendous all RIGHT !
Bravo for your argumentation, anyway. I'm still thinking about it, and I might use it in one of Mrs Conclusion's articles.
